Other Skills
In addition to the skills gained in my classes at Stockton, my internship at the Marine Mammal Stranding Center and my involvement in the S.A.V.E. club have taught me many skills.

Marine Mammal Stranding Center (MMSC) Internship
My internship at the MMSC, a private non-profit organization, provided me with a plethora of knowledge. I learned of marine mammals and their presence here in southern New Jersey. The MMSC is dedicated to responding to any marine mammal or sea turtle in distress along all of New Jersey's water ways. If needed, they will bring the animal back to their facilities and rehabilitate it until ready for release. Unfortunately, the Center's busy season is winter time so I worked more in the educational aspect of their mission.

One of my daily tasks at the MMSC was giving tours to visitors. I took them to our observation tank which was filled with local marine life we had collected during one of our seinings. I worked with children's camp's the MMSC organized in an effort to education them on marine mammals while still having fun. We did mock turtle and dolphin strandings where we showed to children, and their parents, what to do if they came across a stranded animal. In addition to my educational tasks, I also worked fundraising events the MMSC held. Here I got to see the real effort non-profit organizations put into their fundraising. I also got to meet and communicate with the people providing the MMSC with its funding. My internship at the MMSC made me realize that environmental education is a real passion of mine and I strongly desire pursuing this as a career.

S.A.V.E. (Stockton Action Volunteers for the Environment)
I have been an active member in this club since my first semester here at Stockton. I have made many friendships through the club as well as professional relationships with Stockton faculty in the club. By organizing club events, such as our annual Harvest Fest, I learned of the hard work they require. There is a significant amount of paper work, phone calls, and emails that need to be done for these types of events. Organizing S.A.V.E. events has taught me how to get these necessary tasks done in a timely  and efficient manner.

S.A.V.E. club maintains an on campus garden with a composting system as well. Everything we grow is organic and all of the compost comes from scrap donations by fellow students. The club is also working hard on building an on campus farm. Fences have been put in place, as well as rain barrels. Having an on campus farm would promote sustainability and the growing of local food. We make sure to put an environmentally friendly twist on any event we host. For example, the fall we hosted our annual Harvest Fest. We set up the S.A.V.E. compost bin with a detailed poster of the do's and dont's of composting.
In addition, we put detailed posters on the recycling bin and trash bin. This was done in the hopes that people learn a bit about where their garbage is going, and in turn lessen the waste that goes to landfills. My membership in S.A.V.E. has provided me with experience in environmental education as well as event planning.
