After my time at Stockton is finished, I am not sure whether I will be attending graduate school or heading directly to the job market. Either way, I feel I have gained a substantial amount of skills at Stockton which have prepared me for any path I may take. For example, my experiences through out my courses at Stockton have given me a preview of what to expect from graduate school. Obviously, I can expect a bit heavier of a work load in graduate school. None the less, my undergraduate classes at Stockton have enabled me to do thorough research, write creatively, and think quantitatively and analytically.
If I am able to go directly into the work force after my time at Stockton is complete, I will have the skills necessary to do so. Surely, with any new job it takes time to get comfortable with the surroundings or the basic tasks it involves. Through my experiences here at Stockton, I have become a quick learner and easily adaptable to new environments. My ability to communicate well with others has peaked here at Stockton, which allows me to work harmoniously with others. By giving multiple class presentations through out my courses here, I can say that I would feel comfortable doing so in the work place as well. My courses at Stockton have also made me a fan of traveling. I find learning to be more successful when I am actually immersed and present in the material, rather then sitting behind a screen and reading about it. Given that I am comfortable traveling or even relocating, I could therefore be more desirable on the job market.
Besides my actual courses at Stockton, the club activities and internship I have taken part in also taught me a great deal that will be useful in either graduate school or the job market. My ability to plan events (environmentally friendly ones at that!), and work with supervisors or administrators is easily transferable into career situations. Being comfortable and honest with your superiors (boss or professor) is crucial, and I have learned that through S.A.V.E. and my Marine Mammal Stranding Center Internship. Whatever path my life takes me on, the experiences I have had at Stockton have prepared me well.
